installation involves a selective examination of issues relating to this “contemporary” Western art form, specific artist in the field and their production. The second component to the course includes hands-on experience in the studio/lab with the goal of creating a final exhibition of Installation Art. Students create individual works to be exhibited in a group exhibition as well as research and present their findings and ideas in a written artist's statement. The development of independent and critical thinking skills along with group participation and peer-to-peer cooperation are emphasized.

Student installations have included works entitled "White Trash Wedding," "Give a Penny, Take a Penny," "Tree House: Middlesboro, KY," "Portrait of Poetic Expression," "Swing" and "Stress Test."
